Your browser. Your data.

The extension has no developer server and sends no analytics, telemetry, or crash reports to the developer. Here’s how it handles the data you choose to use.

Kept in your browser.

The encrypted key vault, public keys and labels, permissions, relay addresses, settings, and activity records live in local extension storage. The browser may sync one preference: whether Ostrilo opens in the side panel.

Private keys are encrypted. Activity records and settings are separate local data, and are not encrypted like the key vault. Activity includes the site origin, event kind, decision, and a content preview.

Connections you can account for.

Ostrilo connects to your selected Nostr relays to fetch public profiles and publish profile changes. Relays receive the queried public keys and can see your IP address. The default relay is wss://relay.primal.net.

Websites receive a public key with your consent and signed events you approve or permit through rules. Ostrilo returns website-requested signed events to the website. That website decides where to publish them.

In extension 0.9.0, profile images are not loaded from their remote hosts, and there’s no image-upload flow. Saving an image URL as profile metadata does not cause an image request from the extension.

A quiet website, too.

This site contains no analytics, advertising, tracking cookies, remote fonts, or embedded third-party widgets. Fonts and images are served with the site. The signing walkthrough uses example data and never connects to your extension.

The theme switch works within the current page without storing a preference. GitHub Pages hosts the website and receives ordinary web requests, including your IP address. GitHub’s privacy statement covers its handling of that data.

Following a link to GitHub, the Chrome Web Store, or another service takes you to that service, where its own privacy terms apply.
